Crude Oil pipeline Development

Project Coordinated by:
Kenya

Following discovery of Crude Oil in Uganda and Kenya, it was deemed necessary to construct a pipeline to evacuate crude oil from oil field in Uganda and Northern Kenya.   The Crude Oil Pipeline starts from Hoima in Uganda via Lokichar to Lamu Port. Each country is expected to meet the cost of developing the portion within its territory.  South Sudan section will be connected at Lokichar in Northern Kenya.

The 5th Summit approved the Pipeline to be developed as a single project but split into lots. A steering committee was constituted to oversee the project development.

The feasibility study for the crude oil pipeline from Hoima-Lokichar-Lamu Port is complete and is awaiting funds to commence construction.
