Energy is a critical component of the Northern Corridor Integration Projects.  The Cluster on Power Generation, Transmission and Inter-Connectivity is mandated to spearhead energy generation, transmission and interconnectivity across Partner States as well as development of crude oil and refined oil products pipelines.

On Power generation Partner states have embarked on ambitious program to increase power production to meet the domestic demand, generate sufficient power for use in identified projects such as the standard Gauge railway, pipelines and ICT as well us bring down the cost of energy to boot production.

To support this noble course Partner States have concluded power purchase and wheeling agreement to facilitate power trade among Northern Corridor Partner States.  This agreement was concluded during the 8th Summit and paves way for power trade between partner states as follows:

  • 30 MW by June, 2015
  • 50 MW by December, 2016
  • 150 MW by March, 2017
  •  Above 150 MW by June, 2018 when the power transmission line is expected to have been standardized at 400 KV.
